Privacy policy

This is a courtesy translation. These terms are governed by Ivorian law, and the French version prevails in the event of any difference between the two.

In short

• Audio is never kept. It is transcribed as it passes, then gone. No copy on our servers.
• Nothing is listened to without your explicit consent, given once and revocable.
• We sell nothing to anyone and use no advertising trackers.
• You can export everything and delete everything in one click, from your account area.

Who is responsible

What we collect

Your account

Your email address and — if you sign in with Google — your name and profile picture, along with a technical identifier provided by Google. The country of your first known connection, derived from your IP address by Cloudflare, which hosts our service: we keep the country, never the address, and use it to know where our users come from. Never a password: we do not ask for one.

Your usage

The number of minutes used, by day and by type of call (voice, transcription, translation, summary). We record counters, not content: not the title of the video, not its address, not what is said in it.

Your subscription

The plan you chose, its billing period, the dates of the current period, the amount paid and its currency, the state of the subscription (active, cancelled, payment pending), your top-ups and your refunds, and the identifiers of your subscription and your customer account at Polar. Never your card number: you enter it at Polar, and it stays there.

Your mobile money payments

For each payment: the plan, the length of the pass, the amount and its currency, the state of the payment, its dates, our order reference and the transaction identifier at Paystack, as well as the dates of your passes. Never your phone number or your codes: you enter them at Paystack and on your phone.

On your device

Your session token (in the browser’s local storage), your extension settings (language, voice, speed) and an audio cache in IndexedDB, which lets you listen to a video again without being charged for it twice. That cache never leaves your browser, and you can empty it by clearing the site’s data.

Your visit to the site

If you accept: the pages viewed, the sections read and the actions taken on this site (playing a voice sample, opening a question, clicking a button). This serves to know what interests you and to improve the pages — never for advertising, never resold. If you decline, none of it is collected and the site works exactly the same. The anonymous visit count uses neither cookie nor identifier and cannot recognise anyone.

Administration log

When an administrator acts on an account (granting minutes, changing plan, suspending, refunding), the action, its reason and its author are logged. That is a safeguard for you.

Why

To provide the service you asked for (performance of the contract), to count minutes and bill correctly (legitimate interest and accounting obligation), and to detect abuse that would put the service at risk (legitimate interest). Listening to a tab’s soundtrack rests on your consent, which you may withdraw at any time.

Who the data passes through

Klarsono relies on technical providers, described here by their role. Those that process your videos do not receive your identity: they receive text or audio to process, and nothing that would reveal whose it is. The providers that collect your payments and the analytics tools are named — consent is only valid if it is informed.

• Hosting of the site, the API and the database — in the European Union. The host is named, with its address, on the Legal notice page.
• Signing in with a Google account — if you choose that way in, Google passes us your email address and your name.
• Payment — Polar (Polar Software, Inc., United States), our reseller and Merchant of Record. When you subscribe or buy a top-up by card, Polar receives your email address, your name, your country and the payment details you enter on its page; card payments are processed by Stripe on its behalf. Polar processes this data under its own privacy policy; it passes us the state of your subscription and your orders, never your card number.
• Mobile money payment — Paystack (Paystack Côte d’Ivoire, Abidjan), a payment provider. When you pay for a pass or a top-up by mobile money, Paystack receives your email address, the amount and our order reference, then, on its page, your phone number and the operator you choose; your operator then approves the payment with you. Paystack processes this data as a data controller, under its own privacy policy; it passes us the state of the payment, and Klarsono records neither your phone number nor any code.
• Translation, summaries and fallback transcription — a language-model provider receives the text or audio to process.
• Speech synthesis — specialist providers receive the text to be spoken. Part of the processing takes place in the European Union, in the Paris region.
• Live transcription — a speech-recognition provider. The audio goes straight from your browser to them, with a key valid for 60 seconds: it does not pass through our servers.
• Sending emails — the sign-in link and, for customers, the confirmations of subscription, pass, top-up and refund, and the reminder before a pass ends: an email provider, also named on the Legal notice page.
• Google Analytics — site analytics, only if you accept. The script is not even downloaded before you agree.
• Cloudflare Web Analytics — anonymous visit counting, without cookie or identifier: it cannot recognise you, nor follow you from one site to another.
• Demo video — YouTube (Google): the video on the French pages only loads if you start it, in privacy-enhanced mode. Before your click, nothing is sent to YouTube; after it, Google handles your viewing under its own privacy policy.

Some of these providers are established outside the European Union. Transfers rely on the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses.

For how long

Audio: never kept. Usage counters: three years after the end of the relationship. Your subscription and pass data (plan, dates, amounts, top-ups, refunds, mobile money payments): for as long as your account exists. Invoices and receipts for card payments are issued and kept by Polar, the seller of record, under its own obligations. The accounting records of mobile money sales, of which the publisher is the seller, are kept for ten years, as accounting law requires — including after your account is deleted. Your account: for as long as it exists. On deletion, your personal data is erased; only aggregated statistics remain, which can no longer identify you, along with those accounting records.

The extension’s permissions

Each one serves a precise purpose, and nothing else.

Access to the sites you visit

To find the video player and its subtitles on any site. The extension does not read the rest of the page and never sends the list of sites you visit anywhere.

Tab audio capture

Only when the video has no subtitles, only after your explicit consent, and only on the tab concerned. Never in the background.

Offscreen document

To play the translated voice without it being re-recorded by the capture. It is a technical necessity, not a collection.

Storage

To remember your settings and your session. Stays on your device.

Identity

To sign you in with your Google account, if you choose that way in.

Cookies and analytics

No advertising cookie, no cross-site tracking, no resale. The site uses your browser’s local storage to keep your session open, and to remember the answer you give below. One exception, and only if you choose it: if you start the demo video, YouTube may then set its own cookies.

Analytics asks for your agreement, and does not start without it: until you have answered, or if you decline, no measurement script is loaded and nothing leaves your browser. Declining takes the same click as accepting, and you may change your mind here at any time.

Your rights

Access, rectification, erasure, portability, objection, withdrawal of consent. Two of them are directly in your account area: export all your data and delete your account. For the others, write to us. You may also lodge a complaint with the ARTCI, the Ivorian data protection authority (artci.ci). If you reside in the European Union, you may also contact the authority of your own country.

Changes

If this policy changes significantly, we will tell you by email before the change takes effect.
